'Poetic Forest' Emerges Along the Yellow Dragon Trail in Mt. Lushan
Forest Art 2010 Installation
The World Forest Artist Association from Germany has entered into a multi-year partnership with Mt. Lushan local government to create one of the most distinct and elaborate natural art exhibitions in China known as the 'Poetic Forest Trail'. Its installed along the pathway near Yellow and Black Dragon Pools which were frequent summer swimming holes of the previous Kuling residents. Now with two summers of work complete, this collection of natural art works in Lushan is one of its most outstanding new attractions. In 2012, the Lushan Institute will enable a small group of students the opportunity to work as interns, working side-by-side with this unique group of environmental artists.
The Poetic Forest is being installed over a multi-year period along the Path of the Yellow Dragon Temple, providing an opportunity for 10 to 15 artists from all over the world to showcase their work in this worldclass installation. The magic of Mt Lu's landscape has inspired a wide variety of works of art that blend into the dense forest. The works include art made of wood, textiles, bamboo or stone. The theme of the landscape, combining nature and sustainable art, is present at all times.
Back in October 2009, during the visit to Mt. Lushan of the delegation from the Geo-Naturepark Bergstrasse - Odenwald Germany in October 2009, the curator and the technical director of the Association for International Forest Art had the chance to become acquainted with the terrain and local situation in Lushan. The visitors and the Mount Lushan Geopark team joined forces to produce a novel concept, to produce a group of new works each summer since along the trail through the Lushan forest. The first group of art works were created during a 3-week symposium in the Fall of 2010 and were completed before the 2nd World Famous Mountain Conference.
The 2nd World Famous Mountain Conference took place from October 11 -16, 2010. The artist's delegation from Hesse Germany participated in the first conference in 2009, presenting talks on the Geo-Naturepark Bergstrasse - Odenwald and the International Forest Art Trails. The conference organizers were invited by the Association of the International Forest Art to host the 3rd International Forest Art Conference as part of the World Famous Mountain Conference. The topic of this conference was Poetic Forest - An Art Laboratory. The event attracted artists, curators, environmental specialists and scientists from five continents. The international audience learned about the concept of forest art directly by visiting the Forest Art Trail and were able to deepen their knowledge later by attending the accompanying lectures.
The Mount Lushan Geopark and Geo-Naturepark Bergstrasse - Odenwald had been cooperating closely for several years. On their visit to Germany in June 2009, the Lushan Chinese delegation visited the 4th International Forest Art Trail Cycles and Systems and was very impressed with the close interaction between art and nature. The present working relationship with Lushan and Germany is based on the partnership on trust developed over a period of several years between the two geoparks and the long-standing cooperation between the Association for International Forest Art and their own regional geopark. In addition to this, Hesse Germany is the partner with Jiangxi Province. Coming up in the summer of 2012, the third group of natural forest art works will be constructed and installed in Lushan along the Poetic Forest Trail, confirming it as one of the most distinguished natural art locations in all of China.
